Brazil Announces COVID-19 Measures

In response to COVID-19, the Brazilian Government has announced a number of tax administrative concessions.

The Government has extended the payment deadlines for the alternative minimum tax for small entities "Simples Nacional", as follows: For the March 2020 tax period, the deadline is now October 20, 2020, from April 20, 2020; for the April 2020 tax period, the deadline is now November 20, 2020, from May 20, 2020; and for the May tax period, the deadline is now December 31, 2020, from June 22, 2020.

The deadline for filing 2019 returns under the Simples Nacional regime has been extended to June 30, 2020.

Further, the deadline for employers to pay the FGTS social security levy has been extended by three months.

In addition, import tax will be waived on a basket of 111 products necessary to tackle COVID-19, including gloves, alcohol gel, and breathing equipment, until at least September 30, 2020. These items are detailed in resolution no. 17 of March 17, 2020, and resolution no. 22 of March 25, 2020.

Finally, Brazil has further announced that it will suspend certain enforcement actions for 90 days beginning from March 18, 2020.
